How to Make

  1. Select some wooden letters for the message on your hanging.
To paint the letters, stick a strip of double-sided tape onto card, peel off the backing then lightly stick the edges of the letters on top so they don’t move.
Paint the letters, including around the edges. Leave to dry then carefully lift them off the
tape. Or, leave the letters as natural wood if you prefer.
  2. Use a piece of white A3 felt as the background, or choose another colour.
Glue 3 wooden craft sticks together to make a 33cm length, leave to dry. The wooden stick needs to be slightly longer than the width of the felt.
Stick a piece of double-sided tape along the edge of the felt background with the wooden stick positioned 5-6cm underneath. Peel off the tape backing then fold the felt over the stick and press down. If the felt edge lifts up, add a piece stronger sticky tape along the edge.
Turn the background over before making the picture.
  3. Draw a 20-21cm circle onto coloured felt for the plate, you could draw around a bowl or small plate as a guide. Cut out the circle then glue it in the middle of the background.
Cut out 6 small felt circles 5-6cm in diameter to fit onto the plate. Use a lid or small container as a guide. Stick the circles onto the plate with a small amount of super tacky glue.
  4. Cut out some felt shapes for the Sedar food and wine glasses. Glue them onto the small circles.
There are usually 6 symbolic foods on the plate. Other food on the table may include Matzah, oranges, fish and soup.
  5. Glue the painted letters onto the background. Add self-adhesive felt flowers and cut out felt leaves to decorate the background.
Glue a 6-pointed felt star in the middle of the plate made from overlapping triangles.
  6. Tie a piece of twine onto the ends of the sticks to hang the banner.
If necessary, glue an extra piece of felt on the reverse side of the background to make it thicker.
