How to Make

1. Roll a piece of A3 card into a cone. Twist the card to make a 2cm hole at one end and a wider 8-9cm hole at the other end. Tape along the edges of the card to hold the cone in shape.
2. Trim off the corners of the card at the wider end of the cone to make a round hole. Squash the cone to make it flatter then cut through the card, 10cm from the wider end to make 2 separate pieces. Push the 2 pieces together at an angle to make a horn shape then stick tape around the join. If the card pieces don’t easily fit together, snip around the end of the thinner cone then slot the 2 sections together. Cover any gaps with tape.
3. Cut off 12-15 6cm strips from the Mod Roc roll. One a time, dip the strips into a bowl of water, squeeze out any excess water then press the strips around the card horn. Leave both ends of the horn open by smoothing the ends of the Mod Roc inside the holes. Try using a pencil to push the Mod Roc inside the small hole. Leave the horn to dry standing upright with the wide end over the base of a glass jar.
4. To make a raised pattern on horn, cut off a 40cm piece of Mod Roc then cut it into 3 separate strips, 5cm wide. One a time, dip the strips into a bowl of water, squeeze out any excess water, loosely twist the strips like a rope then wind around the horn to make a spiral. Start at the thin end of the horn with the first piece, smoothing the plaster so it sticks. Add the next strip, smoothing the plaster where the pieces join together. Tuck the end of the last strip inside the wide end. Leave to dry.
5. Brush brown paint all over the horn. Paint inside the horn as far as you can reach. Leave to dry. To add more texture, lightly brush or sponge a dark brown paint or black over the top. Brush gold paint over the top of the raised spiral.

Top Tip

To display the Shofar, tie a ribbon or a string threaded with beads around both ends of the horn so it hangs up.
