Emotions Mix & Match Board

How to Make

1. Print out the yellow emotions template onto white card and cut out the emotions.
2. Choose a skin tone that is most like yours from the face cut-outs. You will need 5 faces for this project, but you can add more if you like.
3. Back 4 of the faces onto white card using a glue stick. With the remaining head back it onto a A4 coloured sheet of card.
4. Take the faces that are backed onto white card and cut around them, and then cut a straight horizontal line just above each ear, cutting them in half.
5. Cut out 8 identical circles of white card for the eyes, Colour the iris to match your eye colour and add a black pupil in the centre.
6. Next print the eyebrows template and make a set of eyebrows for each face.
7. Now it’s time to assemble the faces. On the bottom half of the faces, draw a nose and a mouth. Be sure to make the mouths resemble different emotions (see the example mouths sheet).
8. On the top half of the faces, stick on the eyes and eyebrows. Play with tilting the eyebrows to achieve different expressions.
9. Add a hook side of the hook and loop dots to the head on the coloured card; one in the centre of the bottom half and one in the centre of the top half.
10. Then, stick the loop side to the interchangeable face pieces so that they can be stuck on.
11. Print off the hairstyle that closest resembles yours or make your own and cut it out of coloured card to match your hair colour.
12. Place a hook dot on the front of each forehead piece and a loop dot on the back of your chosen hair piece.
13. Lastly, stick the “I’m feeling” rectangle at the top of the coloured card and place the hook and loop dots onto the emotion words so they can be interchangeable (see finished project for a visual).

Encourage kids to make a face that resembles their own.
