How to Make
- If you’re going to use the spelling gems to teach children the alphabet, you will only need to make 26. If you are going to be using the gems as part of a group spelling activity, you will need to make multiple sets to provide enough letters for children to create words with.
- For one set of gems, arrange 26 gems or stones on a flat surface in front of you. Choose 3-5 colours of Deco Pen and write each letter of the alphabet onto a gem/stone, alternating the colours. Make sure your writing is clear and fills most of the surface of the gem/stone.
- Make as many sets as required. For additional learning, you might want to make some sets with uppercase letters and other sets with lowercase letters. Mix them all up in a jar or container, pour out onto a table or other flat surface and encourage children to line up the alphabet in order or spell as many different words as they can with them.
