Creating these diffusing paper poppies is a fun craft activity for children and adults alike and is also a great way for children to learn about the significance of Remembrance Day.

How to Make

  1. Begin by scribbling onto diffusing paper with a red broad tip marker.
  2. Fill the spray bottle up with water and spray the water all over the diffusing paper.
  3. Put aside and wait for the paper to dry.
  4. Using the template cut out 4 flower shapes from the coloured diffusing paper.
  5. Set aside one flower for the base.
  6. For the second layer, cut a slit between 2 petals on the flower up to the centre. Fold the two ends together, apply glue and stick together.
  7. For the third layer, cut one petal off the flower. Cut at an angle towards the centre. Fold the two ends, glue and press down.
  8. For the fourth layer, cut two petals off the flower, fold, glue and press down.
  9. Starting with the base flower, place glue in the centre of each flower and glue the layers together.
  10. Glue a pom pom to the centre of the poppy.
  11. Lastly, twist 2 pipe cleaners together. Then curl one end of the pipe cleaner in on itself creating a small circular base for the flower to sit on.
  12. Lastly, glue the pipe cleaner stalk to the base of the flower.

Top Tip

When sticking the layers of flowers together to create a 3D poppy you can turn the flowers over and press down in the centre so that the bottom of the flower is flattened and will be easier to glue the flowers together.
