Colour Chart Umbrella

This arty project is a fun way to display primary and secondary colours and teach children all about them! The umbrella represents the colour chart, and they use each fold of the umbrella for a different colour. Once finished, you can hold an activity where children need to pick a colour and tell you whether it’s primary or secondary.

How to Make

  1. Take a piece of A4 white card and draw a six-sectioned umbrella outline using black pen. It shouldn’t take up most of the page, as shown, as you’re going to annotate the colours later.
  2. Colour in each section – one yellow, one red, one blue, one green, one purple and one orange.
  3. Draw the body of a person or stick man poking out from under the umbrella, and add some rain drops scattered about above the umbrella, as shown.
  4. Now label your colours – yellow, red and blue are primary and the rest are secondary.

Top Tip

To make it easier if you're crafting with a group, provide pre-drawn pictures that can be coloured in.
