How to Make

  1. Using the deco pen draw a small smile onto the porcelain flowerpot. Leave for a couple of minutes to dry. In the meantime, take a brush and dip it into the pink acrylic paint. Dab off the excess paint onto a piece of scrap paper or dish until there is not too much paint on the brush. Gently dab the paint on either side of the mouth to create rosy cheeks. Leave the pot to dry.
  2. Whilst the unicorn face is drying, paint 1 of the conch shells with gold metallic paint. Leave to dry. Apply additional coat later if the first coat isn’t enough.
  3. Trace and cut 2 long ear-shaped triangles from white self-adhesive foam sheets, and 2 smaller ear-shapes from pink self-adhesive foam. Peel and stick the pink foam to the white foam to make the insides of the unicorns’ ears. Leave to one side for now.
  4. To make the eyes wrap one end of a black pipe cleaner around a finger or pencil. Remove finger/pencil so that the curve has been formed in the pipe cleaner and carefully trim with scissors until a half moon shape has been made. Stick the two half-moons above the rosy cheeks on the flowerpot. Also, peel off the back of the white foam ears and stick them above the eyes on the rim of the flowerpot. Leave to one side until the glue has dried.
  5. Once the horn is dry apply glue to the bottom of the horn and line it up between the unicorn’s ears. It may need to be held in place as it dries, as the shell is quite heavy and may move without support.
  6. Whilst waiting for the horn to dry, trim the ends off some of the paper flowers. This may require adult supervision as the wire is a bit tricky to cut. Arrange and stick the flowers around the base of the horn and ears and leave to dry. The flowers may also need to be held in place whilst drying to avoid them sliding around or moving accidentally.

Top Tip

An alternative to painting the conch is stacking yellow pony beads on a spare pipe cleaner and sticking it in place for the horn!
