  2. Dab or brush some paint onto a wooden shape. Before making a print, check the wooden shape has been evenly painted. Remove any excess paint from around the edge with a cotton bud. Or, if any holes or detail on the shape have filled in, push a cocktail stick through the shape to clear the paint.
  3. Carefully turn the shape over onto a piece of card, press down to make a print then lift it up.
  4. Build up a pattern with repeat prints using different wooden shapes or wooden letters to print ‘MUM’ onto a card. Leave to dry.
  5. Trim the printed design a to fit onto a folded background card.
  • To make a lighter or softer looking print, first make a print onto scrap paper to remove some paint before printing onto your card.
  • Vary the colours to make printed borders and backgrounds for your cards.
  • Use a new wooden shape each time you change colour. Or, clean the shape with a wet wipe then and dry it before adding a new colour so the colours don’t merge together.
  • To make painted wooden embellishments:
  1. Stick a strip of double-sided tape onto some scrap paper then press the mini wooden shapes on top. Stick the shapes lightly at the edges, just enough to hold them still. Brush paint over the letters and around the edges. Leave to dry.
  2. Carefully lift the painted shapes off the sticky tape then glue onto a card background.
  • Alternatively, the shapes can be left unpainted for a natural look.
