How to Make

  1. Use the French knitting guide to cast on and knit a yellow strand 46cms long, then cast off. Pull the loose ends inside the strand with a needle.
  2. Cast on and knit a black strand 43cms long, then cast off. Pull the loose ends inside the strand with a needle.
  3. Cast on and knit a white strand 36cms long, then cast off. Pull the loose ends inside the strand with a needle. Repeat to make two white strands. These will be the wings.
  4. Print off the template as a guide for your bee shape and weave the yellow and black strands to make the bee’s stripes. Sew the stripes together to secure the shape.
  5. Sew the wings to each side of the bee at the centre and each end.
  6. Cut out the bee’s head shape from yellow felt and poke five or six holes with your needle where it will attach. Then sew the head and body together. Pull any loose wool inside the bee’s body with a needle to hide them.
  7. Turn the bee over and stick on its eyes to finish your coaster.

Top Tip

Do all of your sewing on one side of the coaster, then turn it over so that the stitches are hidden underneath.
