Flying Butterfly

How to Make

1. Take a sheet of pink card and fold it in half, then use a pencil to draw a 1cm long horizontal line about a third of the way down on the fold.
2. Draw a half butterfly shape starting from the end of the line that you drew in step 1, making sure you end the butterfly with another 1cm line taking it back to the fold.
3. Cut out the butterfly shape and then concertina fold it in the centre.
4. Use the deco pens and the self adhesive pearls to decorate the butterfly wings.
5. Take a sheet of yellow paper and roll it around a pencil, using double sided tape to stick it in place. Trim the rest of the paper and remove the pencil so that you have a long, thin tube.
6. Take another sheet of yellow paper and roll another tube, but this time make sure it is much tighter so that it will fit inside the other tube.
7. Cut a slit down the centre of the top of the thinner tube to create two flaps. Stick one flap to one side of the underneath of the butterfly’s body, and the other flap to the other side.
8. Cut a slit down the centre of the top of the thicker tube, then push it over the thinner tube and stick one flap to the underneath of a butterfly wing, and the other flap to the other wing.
9. To make the butterfly fly, pull the smaller tube up and down, which will make the wings move.

Top Tip

Make sure the butterfly is folded when you attach the paper sticks to it to make sure the wings will fly properly
