How to Make

  1. Paint a keepsake box black, or use another colour if you prefer. Paint the inside first and around the edges, leave it to dry then paint the outside. Leave to dry.
  2. Place 2 paper doilies onto scrap paper or newspaper. Sponge gold paint over the doilies, yellow is the easiest colour to cover with gold. Leave the paint to dry for a couple of minutes then lift the doilies at the edges and place to dry on a clean piece of paper to fully dry.
  3. Very lightly brush the painted box with gold paint using a dry brush or a sponge.
  4. Cut the doilies into quarters, place the pieces onto the box to check the size, trim the edges to fit the corners, allowing an extra 1-2 cms for folding over the edges. Paste glue over the lid then press the doilies on top. Carefully flatten the doilies onto with a brush. Leave the glue to dry then stick more doily pieces on the back. Leave to dry.
  5. Cut 2 pieces of self-adhesive felt to fit inside the box and lid. Peel off the backing then stick them in place.
  6. Cut 2 x 80cm lengths of gold ribbon to tie around the box. Cut a 3cm piece of double-sided tape, cut it in half along the length to make 2 thin strips to stick the ribbon Press the tape across the spine of the box so the pieces are equally spaced then peel off the backing. Hold the ribbon to find the middle then stick it to the tape, with equal lengths at the front and back of the box.
  7. Stick a star embellishment to decorate the front of the box.
