How to Make

  1. Choose your card blank and decopatch decoupage paper in a complimentary colour. We have used the gingham, stripes and spots in green for a cheerful spring feel. Tear the decoupage paper into small pieces, ready to apply it to the surface of the wooden egg.
  2. Use a pencil to mark a line about half way up the egg on both sides to give you a guide when you are applying the paper.
  3. Give the decoupage glue a good shake. Use a brush to apply a thin layer of glue to the bottom of the egg. Gently lay on a piece of striped paper. Use a brush to smooth it onto the surface, starting from the middle and working out towards the edges. Once flat, apply a thin layer of glue over the top. Repeat this process, slightly overlapping each piece until the bottom of the egg is covered on both sides. Allow to dry without laying flat – this shouldn’t take too long as the glue is fairly quick drying.
  4. Repeat this process with the spotty paper on the top of the egg. Allow to dry.
  5. Using a piece of green embroidery thread about 30cm long, thread on 5 rose beads, using the picture as a guide. Pop a blob of strong gem glue on the back of each and place on the egg. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  6. Wrap the embroidery thread from the front of the egg to the back, and fix with a bow. Cut a small circle of felt, and a length of ribbon to hang the egg/ attach it to the card. Fold the ribbon in half – fix the folded end to the top centre of the back of the egg using the gem glue, topping with the circle of felt. Allow to dry.
  7. Punch two holes about 5mm apart in the top centre of your card blank. Thread one side of the ribbon through one hole towards the back and back out to the front of the card. Tie a bow to fix in place.

Top Tip

When applying the deco paper, use a firm brush to flatten out the paper for a nice smooth finish.
